Perfectly balanced, full-format motherboard for gamers (and not only) from Asus. It belongs to the upper price segment, is included in the popular Asus The Ultimate Force 2022 series of accessories for gamers. Designed for demanding gamers, overclocking enthusiasts and dedicated professionals who are looking for a high-performance and reliable workstation foundation based on the 12th or 13th generation Intel Core platform.
Unlike most motherboards from the TUF line, this model is based on the flagship Z790 system logic, and its heart is an extremely powerful hybrid 15-phase power subsystem. The level of equipment, a scrupulous approach to circuitry and an emphasis on efficient cooling rather make it related to the elite motherboards from the Asus ROG Strix line. Therefore, the most reasonable option would be to build a powerful gaming or workstation based on it with a Core i9 13900 caliber processor and an RTX 3080 level video card.
More modest CPUs and GPUs will do, but they will not be able to fully unlock the potential of the Asus TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI . The equipment of the device includes 6 slots for connecting drives (4 SATA3 + 2 M.2 with support for the PCI-E 4.0 bus) and 4 standard slots for DDR4 RAM (speed no more than 6000 MHz, maximum capacity 128 GB). Network traffic is distributed by an Intel LAN controller with a bandwidth of 2.5 Gbps and a pre-installed Wi-Fi receiver.
In addition to everything for the device, support for the Asus OptiMem II memory accelerator and the Fan Xpert proprietary intelligent cooling control system is announced. And the UEFI BIOS has 2 modes of operation: standard for ordinary users and advanced for those who like to look under the hood on their own. As befits a device from the gaming class, additional connectors for LED strips and free zones for placing a water pump are generously scattered on board the board.

Modern mother under 1700 socket. Almost everything you need is present, but without frills (like a post indicator, a power button or a q-connector). Overpriced
Damp bios. The currently available firmware (0807) did not fix the problem with memory overclocking via the XMP profile (AI Overclock Tuner XMP-I or XMP-II). The fact is that in these modes, the mother sets the FSB above 100 MHz, which most often leads to memory instability with frequencies above 3600 MHz. However, this problem can be easily bypassed if you set Overclock Tuner to Manual (FSB will be 99.8 MHz when set to 100 in BIOS) or Auto (FSB will be exactly 100 MHz), then set all timings and memory voltage manually, in accordance with the selected XMP profile ( if you don't know how to do it, set Overclock Tuner to XMP-II, open DRAM Timing Control and write down all values other than Auto, then set Overclock Tuner to Manual or Auto and open DRAM Timing Control again, change values from Auto to saved Last but not least, don't forget to change the DRAM Voltages by checking the XMP profile). Given the catastrophic shortage of DDR5 and inadequate prices for it, it is quite possible to take it as a transitional option (provided that you already have DDR4 from the previous assembly) with an eye to upgrading in half a year or a year, when prices and DDR5 timings will decrease. |
