Expensive and advanced power supplies with a high power reserve (1000-1300 W) are usually purchased for some specific tasks such as workstations, rendering machines, mining farms, etc. They also make sense when assembling extremely powerful gaming PCs with hardware at the level of Ryzen 9 + GeForce RTX 4090; its owner plans to do serious overclocking or plans to leave a reserve in terms of power so that the power supply does not have to constantly work at the limit. It is precisely these standards that Chieftec focuses on with its gold and platinum PowerPlay power supplies.

Chieftec launched the PowerPlay line in 2019, releasing only two PSUs of different levels: one with 80+ Gold certification, the second with 80+ Platinum certification. The first is presented in versions from 550 to 750 W, in the second case we are talking about power from 850 to 1200 W. Solutions from the PowerPlay line boast a fully modular cable system, stylish design, additional connectors for powering particularly powerful video cards and, of course, advanced circuitry. We are talking about exclusively Japanese heat-resistant capacitors, high-quality DC-DC converters, resonant LLC converters and synchronous rectifiers.

All PowerPlay PSUs can operate in a wide range of supply voltages (from 100 to 240 V), so the user does not have to worry about the system’s performance if the network voltage leaves much to be desired. The built-in cooling system can operate in standard and hybrid mode, when when the load on the power supply decreases, the 140 mm fan reduces speed or stops completely. A separate button is provided to switch modes. Considering the flagship status of this series, it would be strange not to see in them a full range of all necessary protections, including OVP, OPP, SCP, AFC, SIP, SCP and OTP.
