We continue. Of course, in comparison with edifire there is no sense and logic. These devices are united only by a common purpose - they reproduce sound. So this will be a brief description, an attempt to tell what "truffle tastes like". As I already wrote, the low-frequency range is articulated, collected, the bass has a good impact, an average depth. Here I will say that I am not a fan of the lowest frequencies, I listen to instrumental music, where it is extremely difficult to meet ultra-low frequencies. On classic rock, jazz, they create a delightful foundation for the composition, the bass is informative, high enough in terms of its resolution, I'm sure that if the amplifier were of a higher class (I use them with marantz pm 6006), more could be squeezed out of them. The speed, positioning and "size" of the instruments in this range are excellent, without dominating or creeping into the midrange. Sevens in this respect are more massive, woofers have more weight and I would recommend them only for noticeably larger rooms.
At first, the mid frequencies seemed to me the weak point of my setup: either the acoustics pushed them a little to the background, or the amplifier contributed to the sound picture. I figured it out: when the centrance dacportable was used as a predac instead of the digital part of the maranth, which works on the CS4398, with which I did not have a relationship in the portable, then everything became a little more interesting with the mid-frequency range. We continue. Of the minuses of the design, it is worth mentioning that no one told Dali's engineers that the grill mounts can be made in the same color as the cases. But these are trifles, although, as you know, the devil is in the details.
In fact, this is a continuation of the very successful Censor line, but with significant changes: firstly, the design of the tweeter has been revised, now it uses the smc (soft magnetic compound) technology previously implemented in older lines, and secondly, the phase inverter has moved to the rear wall of the speaker. If the first is a definite plus, then the second makes it more difficult to place speakers in a room, especially if we are talking about a small living room and not directly prepared for stereo placement. But here it is worth paying tribute to Dali's engineers: I'm not sure that the same would have happened with the big sevens, but the 5s do not create problems with placement, even if they are in close proximity to the wall. In terms of placement requirements, this is one of the most friendly models for a modern home: the developers clearly set the goal of achieving minimum requirements for both placement in the room and its acoustic preparation. High frequencies are "academic": they are detailed, balanced, there are no problems with the separation of instruments and the length of overtones: overtones create the very "layered" in this range, for which it is not a pity to give money. If you play around with the source, you can get an excellent result. So, with the nuprime DAC, based on sabra, I got directly luxurious high frequencies, the DAC itself emphasizes this range very well, adding air from itself. In general, here you need to choose, knowing what you want.
I recommend the Dali Oberon 5 as a floorstanding speaker for small spaces, especially if you have difficulty placing the system.
