I use complete with 17-55 f2.8 and 85 f1.8. The assembly is beyond praise, the absence of a trunk is also a plus (for example, 17-55 has a trunk and everything backlashes). At the long end, sometimes photos at a shutter speed of 1/200 (crop 1.6) work out, but only sometimes. Even at 1/320 you need to "root" and hold your breath so as not to smear. If you do not wave your hands, then confident shots starting from 1/500. A stub like the 17-55, giving 2 stops (out of the claimed 4), would allow shooting at 1/125, which would be a significant help. But f4.0 is enough. It washes the background at 150-200mm and is excellent at f4.0. But on smaller FRs, it still cannot be compared with a cheap 85mm f1,8. So if you choose f2.8 without a stub or f4.0 with a stub, then definitely f4.0 + stub. And this is not counting the dimensions of 70-200 f2.8 and the weight is 2 times more.
The assembly is excellent. Precise and sharp. There is almost not enough resolution at the ends, but at FR 100-150mm the resolution is enough for pixel sharpness for all 24MP crop 1.6 matrices. At f8.0, the pixel sharpness disappears, but this is already due to diffraction. Painfully small pixels have become. It is not clear why such a hood, large, is inconvenient to carry with you, and it scares people. I don’t use it, and at the same time I didn’t notice any wild light, even in the photo at 30 degrees to the sun. It could have been made 2 times shorter, it would not have interfered so much and would not have attracted attention. Assembly, resolution, size and weight. No trunk. The stabilizer is definitely not enough. Well, the hood would be shortened by a third, Maybe take a hacksaw and cut it off? Александр Петренко: use Canon 70-200mm f/4.0L EF USM few months |

Short description:
The CANON EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM is a high quality L-series telephoto zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/4. The model is lightweight and compact, equipped with an internal focus system, as well as a USM ultrasonic drive for fast and quiet automatic focus. The front element of the lens remains stationary during focus, which makes it easy to install and use a circular polarizing filter. A tripod mount is also available for use with the EF 300mm f/4L USM lens.

Yes, the maximum aperture of f4 and the lack of stabilization will not allow handheld shooting in low light conditions. But on a sunny day, gorgeous pictures are obtained, with excellent color reproduction and contrast. I used it on a low-cost 200D crop with ISO 800 and aperture priority mode. Everything, you shoot like on the machine. I shot almost everything on it except for the subject. Due to the focal length, even boring portraits are obtained
